Good Eats...hopefully!!!

Here are photos of the start of our garden(s) to date. We started building it on Memorial Day and it was doing awesome until some weird little black beetle things started eating everything. We went to a local garden center and picked up 4,000 ladybugs, but they have all left us already! Sheesh! Wish us luck on getting some good food on our plates for us and the boys this fall! Our garden has expanded to other parts of the yard and outside of the original garden. We just keep planting more and more, as we hope to be able to eat mostly what we grew ourselves, versus having to rely on the farmer's markets and health food store. We have started a big compost bin in the kitchen, and hope to relocate it outside near the garden once we get a composter. We have been teaching Gavin what things can go into the compost bin and now practically everything he eats, he asks if he can compost it. HAHA! Too cute! I can't wait until Lochlan is older and can learn how to garden, compost, and see where food really comes from. Definitely not in a microwave and through a drive-thru window, that's for sure! :)
Up next: fruit trees! We want to get 5-7 year old apple and cherry trees planted this summer, then when Matt starts a bee hive colony in the spring, they can pollinate the trees.

Lloyd, the GUARDan dog. ;)

Is Matt for hire?? We need to do some seriously heavy work on our front yard and it seems too much for just the two of us. Matt put that garden in it's place!!
