Boys in the bathtub

The boys were cracking each other up in the tub tonight over who knows what...I barely caught the tail end of it with my camera. So cute.

Gavin's first time sledding ever!

I took Gavin sledding for his first time ever last week after we got a few inches of snow (FINALLY)! We just went out on our cul-de-sac, which has a pretty decent incline (most noticeable when I'm biking UP the cul-de-sac, pulling the kids in the Burley behind me). I was taking these great photos of the boys in the sled together, laughing their heads off, cruising down our street. After a little bit, we relocated to the little hill in our backyard. As I'm taking photos of the boys back there, I realize that the memory card was never in the camera. Whoops! So I don't have any documentary of Gavin's very first sledding runs ever, but I do have these.

Some videos

I cannot figure out how to turn these videos, so you will to turn your head sideways to watch them all!

Man town madness

CLICK ON PHOTOS TO MAKE THEM BIGGER!

At the end of August, I started working on remodeling Matt's man town aka man cave aka wood-paneled room from hell.

I wanted to have it finished by the time Matt's mom came to see us on September 1st. I told him I was determined to finish it within 8 days and he laughed at me. He told me he wanted no part of this project, as he knew it wouldn't be an easy project, so I said he didn't have to help at all and that I would do the entire thing myself.

I was able to sell the wood paneling to some guy on Craigslist, who came and picked it all up once I got it off the walls. This took 3 or 4 days alone, just prying it from its' home for the past 20+ years. Ugh! It ended up tearing off huge chunks of drywall, and I went through an entire 5 gallon bucket of sheetrock compound patching up the holes.

Next, I rented a drywall sander for a day and sanded all of the spots that I had filled with sheetrock compound (which was 95% of the walls at this point). The sander was broken, so the little baggie which is supposed to collect the sheetrock dust did not do it's job. We are still finding layers of white dust all over the house every couple of days. Endless vacuuming and dusting do not make a difference whatsoever (that's what I keep telling myself at least, so I have an excuse not to do it all of the time). HA!

After the sanding, I sprayed all of the walls with the drywall texture spray. The walls were so trashed still from the paneling, so it took about 9 big cans of that orange peel spray to even get the drywall back to halfway decent. I started painting a couple of walls, then took a hiatus for a few weeks while my mother-in-law was here. I started the project up again in October, but I only painted one layer of paint.

I finally finished the second layer last week. The baseboard trim that was on there before was original with the house, and having been left outside since the end of August, was completely warped. So on New Years' Day, we went and picked up some new trim and when we brought it home, Matt cut it for me, as I'm not really comfortable with our saw yet. I tacked up most of the trim, although Matt helped me nail it in in some spots.

We have some great photos and prints that we still need to frame and hang up. Also, we want to do some trim around the windows, as well. THEN we'll be completely done down there and Matt can watch football in total man cave heaven. Someday we plan on building a wet bar, but that's a project for another year.
